Keratosis
Obturans is chronic debilitating condition of external ear. Patients need to
attend ENT clinics for regular micro-suction of their ears to minimise the
discomfort, prevent infection and help them to hear better with or without
hearing aids. Michele Paparella proposed canaloplasty many years ago as
surgical treatment option, in his both original and modified surgical
technique, he proposed to widen the bony canal and graft the canal. As
underlying problem in Keratosis Obturans is with migration of keratin in the ear
canal, any widening of the canal didn’t restore the natural migration of the
dead skin. We propose to reconstruct the defected bony canal with cartilage
graft and temporalis fascia to restore ear canal to normalise the natural
migration.
